The project restores and refurbishes the existing Grade II Listed building, bringing it back to life as a 21st century luxury hotel and venue.

Originally designed by Colonel Robert Smith, and completed in 1864, the Redcliffe Hotel is a much-understated heritage asset on the seafront of Paignton Sands in Devon. Incorporating a mix of Indian, Italian and Gothic architectural styles, the building draws inspiration from Smith’s time spent living and working in Europe and India. First opened as a hotel in 1902, the building has since been extended and altered considerably, with many of the original historic features lost and concealed.

The proposal retains and enhances the historic features, including the existing rotunda, whilst removing unsympathetic modern additions and replacing them with features and details characteristic of Smith’s original design.

Not only will the new scheme revive a much-loved, historic landmark on Paignton’s seafront, but will also provide those visiting the area with luxury hotel accommodation, with upgraded guest rooms, a renovated pool area, treatment and spa facilities, a sea-facing gym studio and a fine dining restaurant and bar. The landscape proposal will also include formal, terraced gardens with planting, pathways and patios incorporated to provide users with external amenity space, to enjoy the sea views.
