We’re delighted to share that our recent project, Plant Basingstoke, has been shortlisted for the AJ Architecture Awards 2025 in the Refurbishment Project (£10m+) category.
Formerly known as Mountbatten House, the Grade II listed landmark is considered one of Britain’s most significant modern listed buildings. This heritage-led retrofit has restored its pioneering vision of seamlessly blending nature, wellbeing and the workplace.
The project preserves the building’s unique architectural character, removing later additions to reveal the distinctive coffered slab structure and cruciform columns. The building’s original curtain wall system was carefully refurbished to improve performance and longevity, and new level access to the iconic roof terraces allows greater use of the much-loved ‘hanging gardens of Basingstoke.’ The listed landscape has been adapted to be climate resilient and regenerative, with the addition of 22,500 new plants and 86 trees.
Plant now offers over 19,515 sqm of multi-let office and amenity space. New facilities include a café, gym, shower and changing rooms, secure cycle storage and a multi-purpose function space, all designed to meet the needs of modern tenants.
Targeting BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum, Plant sets a new benchmark for sustainable workplace design.
We look forward to the winners being announced later this year – a big well done to all the team!
