The Bodmin Jail Museum and Visitor Attraction is a groundbreaking heritage destination that seamlessly merges history with immersive storytelling. This unique development revitalises the historic Bodmin Jail through state-of-the-art experiential design.

The centrepiece of the attraction is the Dark Walk, an innovative theatrical experience that transports visitors into the 18th and 19th centuries. A state of the art, automated theatrical space uses the latest technology with a range of scenic sets, films and projections. The Dark Walk is housed in a new building set within the context of the historic jail, clad with stone-filled gabions, a modern interpretation of the historic stone facades of the old jail.

The journey continues into the Naval Wing, where the original prison cells remain, offering an atmospheric exploration of the brutal conditions endured by inmates. The tour continues through the Administration Block and Governor’s Office which enhance the narrative, revealing the operational intricacies of managing a Victorian prison.

As a powerful and thought-provoking conclusion, visitors witness the UK’s only original, fully working Victorian execution pit, a chilling historical artifact where public executions drew vast crowds.
